The world is moving toward green alternatives in every sector, and so is cryogenics. In recent times, ambient air vaporisers have come up as cleaner, more efficient solutions for liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification. Differing from the traditional seawater and fuel-based vaporisers, these AAVs offer a more environmentally feasible option.

In this article, we talk in detail about what makes AAVs the better choice and their advantages for the business of cryogenics. But before that, let’s discuss what LNG regasification actually means:

LNG Regasification: An industrial process where the super-cold cryogenic gas is converted back into its natural gaseous state. The gas is then further transported to ocean carriers in regional pipelines for multiple purposes.

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Unloading: Specialised port terminals are used to unload the liquid brought by the LNG carriers.
  2. Cryogenic Storage: The liquid natural gas is then stored in massive containers called insulated cryogenic tanks at extreme freezing temperatures.
  3. Vapourisation: High-pressure pumps are used to move the LNG through the vapourisers. These vapourisers use different mediums like seawater, fuel and now ambient air to operate.
  4. Distribution: The pressure-regulated and odourised gas is then sent for commercial use

What Are Ambient Air Vaporizers (AAVs)

AAVs, or Ambient Air Vaporisers, are processors that harness the heat from the surrounding ambient air in order to vaporise LNG.

  1. The ultra-cold gas passes through the tubes of the vaporiser.
  2. Cryogenic gases are super cold and turn to their gaseous state when they come in contact with the warm ambient air surrounding the tubes.
  3. The heat from the surrounding areas causes the liquid to boil into gas and be ready for commercial use.

What Makes Ambient Air Vaporisers a Viable Option

Eco-friendly solution: AAVs do not make use of seawater and fuel, thereby reducing the negative impacts on the environment.

Zero emissions: Because the vaporisers don’t require fossil fuels or seawater, they produce no residual emissions. This makes them highly efficient and environmentally friendly.

Maintenance: With fewer moving parts comes fewer breakdowns and less maintenance expenditure too. AAVs are easy-to-maintain and pocket-friendly solutions compared to the other types.

INOXCVA Ambient Air Vaporizers

At INOXCVA, we understand the varying pressure requirements across hospitals, heavy industrial clusters and energy grids. Our AAV lineup is engineered to accommodate the different pressure categories. From low-pressure applications like Airgas & LNG distribution to extra-pressure applications like aerospace and defence, our AAVs are applicable in multiple industries.

What Makes INOXCVA Ambient Air Vaporizers a Great Choice

Modular & Scalable Architecture: We build our units using interconnected modular designs. This way, facilities can easily link multiple vaporisers together and increase the flow capacity to meet the growing demands.

Optimised Thermal Fin Design: Our extrusion-processed cooling fin tubes are custom-engineered with variable fin counts (such as configurations leveraging 12 liquid and 36 gaseous fins) to optimise process times and maximise continuous heat transfer surface area.

Built for Extreme Safety Standards: Every unit is explicitly cleaned for specialised oxygen service and completely designed, manufactured, and tested to meet rigid international guidelines, including ASME and PESO codes. This guarantees absolute structural and thermal reliability under high-load, heavy-duty operational environments.

Strategic Defrost Integration: Because moisture in the air naturally freezes onto aluminium fins during long-duration operation, our engineers integrate smart “switching” systems. While one vapouriser unit undergoes a natural ambient defrost cycle, the secondary unit flawlessly takes over, keeping your gas lines flowing 24/7 without interruption.

Seamless Infrastructure Integration

Our AAVs are designed to integrate natively into cryogenic satellite and fuelling stations. By pairing our vaporisers with INOXCVA Vacuum Jacketed (VJ) Piping, which utilises a “pipe-within-a-pipe” vacuum barrier to eradicate premature boil-off. We deliver a complete zero-waste solution from the liquid bulk tank directly to the end-use delivery system.
